Undir sjöstirndum himni (2023)
Instrumentation: harp & percussion
Undir sjöstirndum himni (Under a seven-starred sky) consists of three short movements for harp and percussion, inspired by Steinn Steinarr's poem Tíminn og vatnið (Time and Water). The three movements are titled with direct quotations from the poem:
I. Undir sjöstirndum himni (Under a seven-starred sky)
II. Syfjuð vötn (Sleepy waters)
III. Ég sá myrkrið fljúga (I saw darkness fly)
The quotations, although from different stanzas, were chosen for their nocturnal allusion and combined to form a series of short, mysterious nocturnes, rather than being used in their original context.
The piece was written for Duo Harpverk with support from the RÚV/STEF Composers' Fund.
